Smartech Woman is the brainchild of Tracy Govender and one that was inspired by events experienced by one of
her family members, Brenda Mungalam, who, sadly, passed away in 2014. Brenda had, herself, been a successful
businesswoman and the owner of a company she christened Industrial Woman. At the age of 38, she was admitted
to hospital for an angiogram, a procedure now widely used to detect the early indications of
coronary artery disease.
As a result of the findings, Brenda was required to undergo a 9-hour triple-bypass operation and remained
on life support in ICU for a further twelve days. It was witnessing, first-hand, the crucial life-saving
role of the various life support machines and gas equipment during those days that motivated
Tracy to start her own company. Its goal – to ensure that the complex and vital support
systems supplied to South Africa’s hospitals and clinics are of the highest
quality and expertly installed – precautions that, for a patient,
could spell the difference between life and death.
